Ernest Shackleton was an Anglo-Irish explorer, who was a part of numberous expeditions to Antarctica. Though he is not as famous as some of the other Polar explorers, he is in news nearly 90 years after his death on the South Georgia Island.
A team of conservators in Antarctica have dug up Crates of Scotch Whiskey and Brandy belonging to Ernest Shackleton and his crew.
The bottles were wrapped in straw and they are believed to be part of 25 cases donated to Shackleton for the first expedition he lead. One of the crates is personally labelled for another member of the expedition team – a Professor TW David.
The interest in this has been huge – particularly from Scotland where the makers of the original whisky want to get a sample so they can try to recreate the recipe.
